Adult Child Interaction

What is it?

An approach to Speech and Language Therapy that focuses on developing speech, language and communication skills through play

Who is it for?

Parents/carers of preschool children with language delay

Why is it used?

Current research shows that adult child interaction is the most effective way for developing the communication skills of children under 5.

How does it help?

The strategies involved encourage a parent to ‘join in’ with their child, following their lead, enabling their child to learn new vocabulary that they are likely to use, increase their confidence in themselves as a ‘talker’ and learn that communication and interaction is fun.

How does it work?

A Speech and Language Therapist will work with parents/carers to teach them strategies that they can use with their child everyday to support their language development.

Does it work?

This approach to Therapy is evidence based. Our approach draws on strategies from Hanen, VERVE, Intensive Interaction and Palin Parent Child Interaction.
